The Charity Commission for England and Wales has published new analysis from the annual return 2022, looking at the health of the charity sector. Its key findings include:
- On average, larger charities saw both income and expenditure grow, while lower income charities saw expenditure outweigh their income
- Income from local or national government grants fell across all charities, with smaller charities reporting the biggest drop in income from these grants
- Financial resilience remains a key risk for the sector and charities continue to report challenging circumstances with rising costs, funding pressures and increased demand.
